Abstract
In the article, the author examines the events of European history, known only to its main characters and their combat comrades-in-arms. Such a long silence is a consequence of the Cold War and internal problems of the international communist movement, as well as a consequence of the order of the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command of August 16, 1941 № 270, according to which any Soviet soldier who surrendered to the enemy was considered a traitor. The collapse of communism, which opened access to many closed archives, re-awakened interest in this topic in Italy, Russia, Slovenia, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan. The author's many years of research made it possible to recreate the general picture of what was happening and to identify new ways to understand problems of great social interest in studying the role of the Resistance in World War II
