HELENA ANTIPOFF (1892-1974): A SYNTHESIS OF SWISS AND SOVIET PSYCHOLOGY IN THE CONTEXT OF BRAZILIAN EDUCATION (ENDING)

Abstract

Elena Antipoff has played an important role in promoting a sociocultural approach to educational psychology in Brazil. Based on the knowledge advanced for its time, acquired in Paris, Geneva and Petrograd, and headed since 1929. one of the first psychological laboratories in Brazil, she proposed a fundamentally new explanation for the drop in school performance in public educational institutions in that country. For the first time in Russian, an article on her work is presented1, which can be divided into three periods: “Experience in Europe” (1909—1929), “Criticism of the Brazilian national education system” (1929—1945) and “Putting forward alternatives” (1945—1974). The contribution of E.V. Antipoff to the study of the development of intellectual abilities of children, based on cultural and environmental theories, is considered in relation to the achievements of Geneva interactionism and L.S. Vygotsky's cultural and historical concept, as well as in the context of a critical view of the Brazilian educational system
