Abstract
The article examines the experience of legal regulation and organizational support, including interethnic and interfaith harmony, the profile of extremism in the largest cities (urban districts) In Russia, the analysis of municipal programs for the prevention of extremism and other municipal legal acts was carried out. Based on the results of the study, problems in this area and proposals for their solution are formulated. The thesis on the need to overcome the formal approach to the prevention of extremism in the activities of local governments is substantiated
