Abstract
In the article, the author analyzes the system of officer training in the Soviet Union in the 1930s and 1940s. The Soviet normative legal acts are taken into account, the continuity of legislation that determined the state of personnel training is shown, the directions of activity of the NKVD bodies to improve personnel training are investigated, and the characteristics of educational institutions are given. The author states that during the Great Patriotic War, the military educational institutions of the NKVD troops did a lot of work on training and educating officers for this kind of troops
