MIGRATION OF VOLGA GERMANS TO SOUTH AMERICA

Abstract

The article examines the main South American trends of migration of Volga Germans in the second half of the XIX century, as well as the reasons that prompted the difficult decision to migrate to the other side of the world. Attention is paid to the characteristics of these areas, and an assessment of the relationship between South American states and colonists is given. Three Latin American States that have accepted immigrants are considered: Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The state policy of these countries was aimed at attracting new citizens for economic development. For Paraguay, this will be a factor in preserving statehood and nationhood, and survival on the world stage. The Governments of these countries have been actively campaigning abroad. At the same time, processes (both economic and political) were taking place in the Russian Empire, forcing part of the population of the German Volga region to migrate.
